CLIPPING GUIDE: PRACTICE SCRIPT AND ANSWER KEY Updated October 7, 2026 Guide: https://clippingguide.com/guides/what-is-clipping/#a-worked-clipping-example-what-stays-and-what-goes This is an original fictional teaching script. It is not a real creator's transcript or a report of microphone testing. Record your own reading for practice. The numbers identify lines, not timings in a video. SOURCE SCRIPT 1. Before we start, I changed the thumbnail and made tea. 2. I bought a new microphone, but my recording still had traffic noise. 3. I thought another microphone would fix it. That was the wrong first step. 4. For the next take, I closed the window and moved closer to the microphone. 5. In this example, that change made the words easier to understand. 6. This does not mean a microphone upgrade is never useful; I checked the setup first. 7. Next time I will talk about lighting. YOUR TASK - Write the viewer's takeaway in one sentence. - Choose a beginning and an ending. - Identify one cut that would change the speaker's meaning. - Give your clip an accurate title. - If you record the script, use timestamps from your actual take in the worksheet. SUGGESTED EDIT Remove line 1: it does not explain the problem. Keep lines 2-3: they establish the problem and the mistaken assumption. Keep lines 4-5: they explain the change and its result within the example. Keep line 6: it prevents an unsupported general claim about all equipment upgrades. Remove line 7: it starts a different topic. Suggested takeaway: check the recording setup before assuming another purchase will solve the problem. Suggested title: A recording setup check before buying another mic. Meaning check: removing "I thought" and "That was the wrong first step" from line 3 reverses its point. Preserve the clarification in speech and captions. NEXT PRACTICE Use an authorized recording of your own. Mark three candidate moments, complete the worksheet for each, and choose the one that supplies its own context and finishes its thought.
